Encouraging student engagement
Summer holidays are over and a fresh new school year is here. Schools across London have nailed down their lesson curriculum and are ready to welcome back familiar faces and embrace a fresh crop of new ones. The beginning of a new term is always exciting for both staff and students, but keeping up that level of enthusiasm and engagement can be a challenge as the term goes on. Luckily there are plenty of opportunities throughout the year to keep students engaged, inspired and, of course, entertained along the way.
That’s why we are sharing with you “Awareness Days” taking place in September and October this year. These can be easily incorporated into lessons or they can be used to raise awareness of important issues that affect the society or to simply have fun and engage your students. . For instance, Dyslexia Awareness Week takes place from Monday 8th October to Sunday 14th October 2012. Research shows that this disorder affects as many as 10% of UK population, so raising dyslexia awareness is crucial. You can also choose Wear Your Wellies Day, taking place on the 16th of September 2012, and support Action Medical Research. Not only is it a fun and engaging activity, but it also encourages social responsibility among the young generation.
So pick your favourites now and let’s start engaging.
