Clean and Green Buildings
As of 2009, people across the globeparticipate in different events held every year during what’s known as World Green Building Week (WGBW), which exists to highlight the importance of sustainable(or green) buildings. This year, the WGBW will run from the 21st – 25th September. The existence of a campaign such as this one demonstrates the growing concern of people around the world about the future of our planet. It helps to raise awareness of the numerous environmental issues we will all increasingly face, whilst promoting the need for more sustainable buildings.
The good news is that every year the number of green, eco-friendly buildings on our planet is rising. We’re even trying to do our bit at Julius Rutherfoord; in 2011, we had 36 solar panels installed onto on our roof headquarters, and we are always looking for more environmentally-friendly ways to improve our contract cleaning services in London. Read on for more information about clean and green buildings!
The Argument For Green Buildings
Green building isn’t a new venture in design and architecture, but it does have a huge role to play in addressing environmental concerns. There are many advantages to building green, and believe it or not, they don’t all concern the environment. From the Co-Operative headquarters in Manchester city centre, which is entirely water and energy efficient, to the world’s first clean energy skyscraper in Indonesia, which is set to be completed in 2020, the world is quickly realising the benefits that come along with environmentally-friendly structures.
The cost of building eco-friendly buildings could be viewed as a disadvantage, but the quality and standard of building created with renewable resources could be said to outweigh the cost. In green buildings, whether a commercial office or hospital, studies have shown that productivity and wellbeing of staff and patients is also improved, with fewer sick days being taken off and patients being discharged sooner. Long-term, too, sustainable buildings are worth the investment, as the expense of energy is dramatically reduced.
